Today we worked on classifying all of the minerals in our kits, just as we had done with our rocks. Some of the groups started to explore how much light was able to pass through their minerals by categorizing their minerals as opaque, translucent, and transparent. Others, tried to examine whether or not their minerals would leave a streak behind on paper. The students did a great job getting ready to explore our minerals in many of the ways they came up with today!
Math
Today thousandths were introduced. This was a strange concept for several students but with practice, I know the students will have this down in no time at all! We did a lot of practice with writing and reading decimals to the thousandths place.
Class Reward
Today, we got to have our class reward and it was a GREAT ONE! We had our stuffed friends, popcorn, and a movie during lunch and recess! These things made for a great day. Keep up the great teamwork third graders!
Writing
Today had the chance to work on revising/publishing their drafts. We will continue to do this at every opportunity during daily 5 throughout the remainder of the week. Our goal will be to get our drafts typed before our winter break.
